"Dr. Nussbaum expertly diagnosed and performed Beth's brain bypass, a
procedure conducted by only a few surgeons in the U.S."

Almost two years ago, KARE 11 TV reported on how a local woman faced a rare, life-threatening disorder before eventually finding proper diagnosis in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul.

Beth Wakefield, a vibrant young teacher, ironically teaches a neuroscience curriculum to her fifth grade students. When Beth's symptoms began to persist, her level of education and neuroscience background told her that she had to become her own healthcare advocate.

She did her research and ultimately found Eric Nussbaum, MD, of the National Brain Aneurysm Center. Dr. Nussbaum correctly diagnosed her with a brain malformation and rare brain disorder, Moya Moya, which only a handful of surgeons in the country treat. Without proper treatment and surgery, Moya Moya -a progressive, cerebrovascular disease - can cause strokes, sensory and cognitive impairments, and ultimately, death.

Dr. Nussbaum performed the challenging brain bypass and now, more than two years later, Beth is fully recovered. Beth credits her return to a normal life to the diagnostic skill and sub-specialty surgical expertise of Dr. Nussbaum.
